A cinematic fan-art interpretation of one of the most unforgettable confrontations in fantasy — Gandalf standing alone against the Balrog in the depths of Moria.

I wanted to emphasize the overwhelming scale of the Balrog, making Gandalf feel almost impossibly small by comparison while still remaining the focal point of the confrontation. Fire, smoke, darkness, and the light from Gandalf’s staff were used to create the contrast between the two forces.
